The inaugural Forum was held in Kuala Lumpur in October 2005, attended by more than 500 participants from more than 44 Muslim and non-Muslim countries, consisting of representatives from the business, government and academic sectors. The second Forum was held in Islamabad in November 2006, attracting about 600 participants coming largely from the business sector, specifically the infrastructure and telecommunications industry and inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Pakistan. He was joined by fellow Heads of Government from various parts of the Muslim world. The third Forum which was held in Kuala Lumpur in May 2007 hosted more than 800 paticipants from various countries from both the Muslim and non-Muslim world. Among the high profile attendess were the Prime Minister of Malaysia, the President of Indonesia, the Prime Minister of Kuwait and the Crown Prince of Ras Al Khaimah of the United Arab Emirates. There was also a large delegation from Rotterdam headed by the Mayor of Rotterdam and one from the Kuwaiti business sector.

The 4th World Islamic Economic Forum to be held in Kuwait from 29th April to 1st May 2008, is poised to be one of the most important business conferences in the Middle East for the year. The Forum will be inaugurated by the Emir of the State of Kuwait, and participated by the relevant government ministries and chambers of commerce and industry of the Muslim world.
